This year Trey’s Avengers will participate in the JDRF OneWalk for the 12th time. In that time, our supporters have helped our team raise over $150,000 for Type 1 Diabetes research and advocacy. This year Trey will take the reins as Captain of his team. In addition to walking the course, he will volunteer his time on Walk morning to set up and serve new teams.

It seems almost impossible it has been so long since Trey was diagnosed. In that time, there has been so much. Trey has gone through three Tandem insulin pumps (that over 1,000 infusion sets), four versions of Dexcom continuous glucose monitors (almost 300 sensor insertions), four clinical trials with UVA Center for Diabetes Technology and hundreds of vials of insulin. He has been his own pancreas for over 4,200 days. He has lost countless hours of sleep and missed activities as part of treating this disease.

And he has thrived. This year he has again served as A JDRF Youth Ambassador. He is also actively involved in his school’s FIRST Robotics team, the Junkyard Dogs. In the next several weeks he will graduate with a dual enrollment degree from our local community college.  Shortly following he will graduate from Goochland High School and the Blue Ridge Virginia Governor's School with an honors degree. This summer he will work full time on the river as a camp counselor with Passages Adventure Camp and Virginia Outside.  In August he will head to Engineering school (still to be announced) to study Computer Engineering.

Everyday he proves to himself and his family that anything is possible, even with the burden of Type 1 Diabetes.  In many ways we owe that success to the research and advocacy efforts of the JDRF, as they continue to pave the way for better treatments and access to care. The importance of their work is why Trey’s Avengers continue to work to support the JDRF.  We believe in the mission and have seen the positive effects of the work in Trey’s life.

This year our team’s goal is to raise $10,000 before April 30th for diabetes research.  We never reach this goal alone. We are surrounded by the generous support of family, friends, co-workers and the occasional stranger. Every dollar will help bring us one step closer to the cure. Thank you in advance for your support, we cannot put into words what it means to us!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
